La Closerie les Capucines is a jewel within a family of enterprises whose existence is built on appreciating the importance of terroir.
As the founder of Rosenthal Wine Merchant, Neal Rosenthal has spent more than forty years as an ambassador for the small family-owned domains and artisanal growers behind some of the world’s finest wines. Decades of intimate contact with the terrain and traditions of France, Italy, and Switzerland have provided Neal with a deep connection to these places and the people that give them their extraordinary character.
For more than a dozen years, La Closerie les Capucines has been Neal’s home-away-from-home on his journey to deeply understand the Jura, its people and products, its ancient culture and traditions.
It was the region’s wine that first enticed Neal to the Jura in 1994. At the time, its wines were far less well-known than they are today.
Neal’s first working relationship in the area was with Jacques Puffeney, the “Pope of Arbois”. Shortly thereafter he began his collaboration with Domaine de Montbourgeau and then Michel Gahier.

In 2018, Neal had the opportunity to purchase La Closerie les Capucines and he did so without second thought. Today, La Closerie welcomes holiday and business travelers to the Jura with warmth and elegance, enriched by Neal’s profound knowledge of and passion for wine.
