The Succession Conference

RESILIENCE & LONGEVITY

Managing generational change for family-owned domains in France

2-4 November 2021, Arbois

Continuity, renewal, and succession planning are some of the greatest challenges for family businesses. While most embrace long-term outlook and see themselves as stewards for future generations, they are often too preoccupied with the day-to-day operations of the business to put this as a top priority. For some, the topic can be highly emotive, resulting in a reluctance to get the conversation started. Despite the paradox, not acting upon the long-term issues faced can potentially put the survival of the family business at risk.

To successfully navigate the complexity of the current environment, family business owners in the wine industry need to engage the next generation early, galvanize entrepreneurial energies and create a safe platform for open conversations. Developing effective governance structures and understanding the frameworks and tools in the transition process is critical for the resilience and longevity of family businesses.

Join us for an exciting two-day conference, the first of a series, where we bring together wine producers and private and public sector experts from economics, law, finance, estate planning, real estate, agricultural science & technology to address the unique challenges faced by family-owned enterprises particularly with respect to generational transition. Through a series of presentations, panels, and break-out sessions, the conference will offer a multifaceted approach for today’s family-owned

domains to identify the questions they need to ask and propose effective paths toward possible answers and solutions.

Hosted by Neal Rosenthal, founder of the Rosenthal Wine Merchant and the Neal Rosenthal Group, and Victoria Anstead, Advisor to the Group, with the support of the INSEAD Wendel International Centre for Family Enterprise, the conference promises to be an inspirational yet highly practical session that will equip growers with the knowledge, tools and professional connections to create and implement strategies for successful successions. The conference also provides an excellent platform for professionals, wine enthusiasts, collectors, and investors to learn about issues facing growers and for them to be an active collaborator in developing solutions for the longevity and success of family businesses.

Professor Morten Bennedsen, Academic Director of the INSEAD Wendel International Centre for Family Enterprise, The André and Rosalie Hoffmann Chair and Co-director of the Hoffmann Research Fund together with INSEAD Adjunct Professor Antoine Duvauchelle will be hosting master classes and engaging sessions to ignite the next generation throughout the two-day conference.
